MOSCOW, RUSSIA: SPUTNIK HOTEL

This four-star hotel on 3,500 square meters of land in the northeast Babushkinsky region of Moscow, Russia, consists of 18 floors and 450 guest rooms, owned and managed by the privately held Russian company Sputnik.

The overall design unites the hotel interior and exterior for an appearance of harmony and continuity. A lit space frame canopy caps the main entrance; a striking metal and glass skylight opens up the lower elevations; and one of two public lobbies features an enclosed winter garden. The exterior façades combine a variety of materials such as granite, precast concrete panels, an aluminum and glass curtain wall, and tinted reflective glass windows.

Designed to meet the technical, aesthetic, and functional requirements of a contemporary hotel of international standards, the building has two main restaurants—one for hotel guests and another for the general public—serviced by a two-level kitchen. The amenities also include meeting rooms; a video hall; a grand concert hall; two buffet areas; snack, express, and pool bars; a cocktail lounge/nightclub; a health club with saunas and massage rooms; several shops; and a staff cafeteria.

Cost: Approximately $60 milion
